On the banks of the East River in downtown New Glasgow, Glasgow Square Theatre has been bringing people together through live entertainment since September 2001.
In 2026, we’re celebrating 25 years of music, laughter, storytelling, and community. From intimate performances in our Green Room to full houses in our theatre and festival crowds at our outdoor stage, Glasgow Square is a place to discover someone new, see a favourite performer, and share a great night out.
Owned and operated by the Town of New Glasgow, our venue presents year-round programming spanning live music, comedy, theatre, drag, and more. We welcome national and international touring artists while proudly showcasing the local and regional talent that helps define our community.
Glasgow Square is also home to the Jubilee Music Festival and a gathering place for community celebrations, including New Glasgow’s Race on the River Dragon Boat Festival. Our connection to these events extends beyond festival weekend, supporting the people and partnerships that bring them to life throughout the year.
As members of Music Nova Scotia, the East Coast Music Association, the Atlantic Presenters Association, and CAPACOA (Canadian Association for the Performing Arts), we work with artists and industry partners to bring more live performance to Pictou County. Through initiatives such as Moments for Everyone, our accessible ticket program with the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library, we’re helping more people experience it.

Meet Our Team
Morgan Simms - Program, Culture, and Events Manager
Morgan leads programming and operations at Glasgow Square Theatre, alongside cultural programming and events for the Town of New Glasgow. His work includes artist booking, partnerships, audience development, and creating more opportunities for people to enjoy live performance in Pictou County. He also serves on the boards of the Atlantic Presenters Association and the Jubilee Music Festival.
Aldera Chisholm - Volunteer Coordinator
Aldera supports the people and planning behind our events, coordinating volunteers and assisting with event operations, fundraising, and community partnerships. With more than a decade of performing arts experience, including work with Calgary’s Vertigo Theatre, she brings a strong understanding of what goes into making audiences, artists, and volunteers feel welcome.
Al MacGillivray - Venue Supervisor
Al brings many years of music industry experience to Glasgow Square Theatre, including working as a tour manager for award-winning acts across Canada. He supports the day-to-day operations of the venue, helping coordinate shows, promotions, and event delivery. He also serves as Festival Organizer for the Jubilee Music Festival, which calls our outdoor stage home.
Derek Martin - Sound and Lighting Tech
Derek has been part of Glasgow Square Theatre since 2007, bringing years of experience in live sound, lighting, and production to our stage. He works closely with artists and presenters to deliver a great experience for performers and audiences alike. His work has earned him two Music Nova Scotia award nominations.
