Join us on Saturday, February 22 for an evening of local musical talent! The Pictou County Showcase will feature performances by Randy Swallow, Ameila & Bruce, Karol Brown, The Aucoin Duo and The Collective.
Hailing from Thorburn, Nova Scotia, Randy Swallow has earned a reputation for himself as an engaging and dynamic guitarist and frontman. Swallow categorizes himself as progressive blues - a flavour of blues including names like Jeff Healey, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Colin James and Eric Clapton all bear influence on Swallow's aggressive but melodic and ultra-confident guitar playing. Performing in a power trio format while slinging a custom built guitar of his own creation, Swallow has shared stages with the likes of Jeff Healey, Dutch Mason, Jerry Doucette, and Mike Smith (better known today as Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys).
Ameila & Bruce
Amelia Parker became inspired to begin fiddle lessons from the moment she first began highland dancing to Fleur Mainville's "Choo Choo" tune. At the age of six, Amelia began fliddle lessons with Fleur and it quickly became her first love. Now at the age of thirteen, she has gained much experience performing at the New Glasgow Farmers Market, CTV's Christmas Daddies, local fundraising events, Music on Deck, The Advent Show and in "The Voyage - A Journey of Hope". Amelia enjoys playing a variety of styles including Celtic, Old Time and Classical. She will be joining Bruce Pettipas on stage to showcase some of her favorite tunes.
Karol Brown is a singer, songwriter and pianist from Little Harbour, Nova Scotia. Her first album released in 2018, “Made My Own”, includes twelve of her original compositions. Her songs tell stories, and entice the listener to ponder more deeply about the world around them. In 2017, Karol placed first in the New Glasgow “Stars of the Future” competition. Last summer she was honored to perform at the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee's "Carleton Munro Songwriters Circle". Karol records at Shoebox Studios in Little Harbour.
The Aucoin Duo
The Aucoin Duo (Katey & Pierre) have been performing together for the last five years. This brother/sister duo from Stellarton, Nova Scotia enjoy entertaining the crowds while playing the fiddle and piano. The pair spends their time performing at weddings, concerts, fundraisers, benefits, variety shows, private functions and at the New Glasgow Farmers Market.
Driven by the desire to make people dance, The Collective has existed in many forms, but has always been about bringing friends together. The band consists of vocalists Leah Samson and Niki Campbell; Brett MacDougall on sax, keys and vocals; guitarist Kyle Samson; bassist Michelle Tracey, and drummer Jay MacLeod. Together, these six musicians establish a groove rooted in the kind of music that charges a dance floor with an irresistible electric magnetism.
