Glasgow Square Theatre opened in September of 2001 as part of a master plan for the revitalization of Downtown New Glasgow and the New Glasgow Riverfront, adding to the assets of a year round trail system and full service marina.
Sitting on the edge of the scenic East River Glasgow Square was built as a venue for community events, music, theatre, and small sized conventions and business meetings, as well as a permanent home for festivals such as the award winning New Glasgow Jubilee. The theatre is a year round, one of a kind location with an architectural award winning indoor and outdoor stage. Glasgow Square is often the place where we come together for community gatherings, special events and major festivals.
Since opening Glasgow Square has flourished and evolved, presenting a broad offering of arts, culture and entertainment year round. In addition to showcasing national and international acts such as Sloan, Nikki Payne and Black Umfolosi, Glasgow Square invests in and contributes towards promoting homegrown local and Nova Scotia talent.
An active member of Bringing It Home, Glasgow Square has presented over the past year such acts as The Stanfields, EB Anderson, Chris Martin, Carleton Stone, Breagh MacKinnon, Dylan Guthro, Gabrielle Papillon, Layne Greene, Decota MacNamara, Cyndi Cain, Alert The Medic, John Campbelljohn, David Myles as well as many others. We are also the site for New Glasgow Pre Canada Day celebrations, New Glasgow Culture Days programs, African Heritage Month, and many of Pictou County Pride Week festivities.
The Square believes in supporting our own, in music, arts, theatre and community led events. We are the home base for the New Glasgow Youth Theatre Troop, New Glasgow’s Race on The River (annual dragon boat festival), the annual New Glasgow Music Festival, Miss Carla’s Dance Recitals, New Glasgow rally for the Marathon of Respect & Equality (MORE) and the Johnny Miles Running Event series such as the Miss Miles event and the Johnny Miles Running Event Weekend and one of the venues for Art at Night.
Glasgow Square is also a perfect location for weddings, anniversaries, parties, receptions, seminars, business meeting, conference and much more.
We are a year round entertainment/community venue in a beautiful riverfront setting here to cater to your needs!
